What Is The Head Start Program?

Head Start is a federally funded child development program for children aged 3 through 5 years old. It supports families by providing:

  • Education

  • Nutritional meals

  • Social and emotional development

  • Services for children with disabilities

Who Qualifies for Head Start?

To qualify, your child must:

  • Be 3 years old by August 15

  • Meet federal income guidelines

You may also qualify if:

  • You receive SNAP

  • You are homeless

  • You are a foster parent

  • Your child has a diagnosed disability (IEP or IFSP)

Documents You’ll Need

Depending on your situation, you’ll need to upload or submit proof of income and other documents. These may include:

Income Documents:

  • Tax return (1040), W-2s, or recent pay stubs

  • SNAP or TANF statement

  • SSI documents

  • Child support payment info

  • Financial aid (college) documents

Additional Documents (if applicable):

  • IEP or IFSP (if your child has special needs)

  • Foster placement letter (if a foster child)

Apply Online

Click the one that fits your language, then print and fill out the form with your child’s and your family’s details.

Complete the Required Forms

After you fill the online application, you need to fill:

  • A Physical Form (completed by your child’s doctor)

  • A Dental Form (completed by your child’s dentist)
